Brookfield Local Schools is proud to recognize Peter O’Dell for demonstrating compassion, selflessness, and a willingness to help someone in need.

Peter’s actions came after a community member experienced a medical emergency while driving, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and end up in a deep ditch.

Peter happened to be in the area and immediately stopped to help.

Despite not knowing the woman, Peter recognized that something was wrong and took the initiative to make sure she was safe and had assistance. He remained at the scene until the woman’s family arrived.

Brookfield High School Guidance Counselor Lynn Pegg, whose mother was the driver, later shared Peter’s actions with district administration.

“Peter had no idea who my mom was, but he recognized that she was in need of assistance and immediately took the initiative to help,” Pegg said. “When I arrived at the scene, I was surprised and incredibly grateful to see Peter there making sure my mom was okay.”

Pegg nominated Peter for a Penguin Award, noting that his willingness to stop and help a complete stranger during a frightening and unexpected situation was an example of what it truly means to be a Warrior.

“His willingness to stop and help a complete stranger during a frightening and unexpected situation is a wonderful example of compassion, selflessness, and what it truly means to be a Warrior,” Pegg said.

Peter was formally recognized for his actions during the October Brookfield Local Schools Board of Education meeting, where district leaders honored him for the compassion and service he showed in stepping forward to help someone in need.

Peter’s actions serve as an important reminder that being a Warrior extends far beyond the classroom. It means looking out for others, stepping forward when someone needs help, and making a positive difference in the community.

Congratulations, Peter, and thank you for showing everyone what it means to be a Brookfield Warrior.
